A New Picture Book for Nurturing Wellbeing & Cultivating Justice

When I consider the crises our country currently faces it seems to me that the crux of many of our most complex issues–from immigration to the skyrocketing cost of living — is a failure to care for each other. Too many of us seem unable to recognize that every single human on earth needs and deserves care–childcare, healthcare, elder care, healthy food, clean water, safe shelter, and more–simply because we exist.
From the moment we are born, we need others to feed, clothe, and cuddle us. We need doctors, dentists, and therapists to help us take care of our minds and bodies. We need friends, family, and neighbors to help us feel love and belonging. And as we become elders, we need people to care for us in ways not so different from when we were first born.
I wrote the book Care: A Short Guide to Caring & Sharing for Awesome Kidsto encourage us all to broaden our assumptions about who is valuable, who is deserving, and who is worthy. The book features colorful, diverse illustrations of people from different racial backgrounds, ages, genders, religious backgrounds, economic backgrounds, body types, geographic locations, and ability statuses.
My hope is that it helps you and the children in your life think more deeply about how we can better share the resources available to us on this earth so that we can take better care of us all.
